History:
They were designed in 1958 by Belgian artist and author PEYO (Pierre Culliford). The Smurfs quickly became popular. First in Europe and then in 1981 in the USA.
The Smurfs are comic book characters also called Puffo Pitufa Pitufo Smølf Schtroumpf Schlumpf.
